This event will bring you all you need to know on important grants:
- What types of grants there are?
- What can you, and your institution, get from them?
- What kind of documents, and skills, are needed for application?
- How does the evaluation process work?
- Detailed presentation by officials and experts!
- Experience feedback and tips from grantees!
After a quick introduction on the various existing services for European researchers in Japan, you will be able to learn in details from research administration experts and officials from the JSPS, about the JSPS Kakenhi Grants, including the opportunities to use them for international cooperation projects.
European grantees and alumni, currently active in Japan, will then provide you with personal tips and experience feedback.
Discussion sessions will be organised so as for you to be able to ask questions and share thoughts with the presenters and other attendees.

Grantees and alumni, some from Europe and some already back to Japan, will then provide you with personal tips and experience feedback.

Prof. Kodera graduated from Sophia University. In 1995,
he joined the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), where he successively was in charge of the international fellowship programs,
the research promotion programs, the policy plannings, the general affairs.
Since 2015, he is in charge of Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) programme.
Dr. Fujiwara received her PhD in biophysics from Waseda University in 2003. After a postdoc at Yale University she was as a research fellow in National Institutes of Health (NIH), the US. In 2014 she worked as an assistant professor at the WPI iCeMS in Kyoto University.
Since 2015, she works at the Nagoya Institute of Technology Research Administration office.
Mr. Jankowski is a law graduate from Poland, with extensive experience in project management.
In 2009 he joined the European Commission as Project Officer for Marie Curie actions in DG Research and Innovation.
Since 2012 he is Policy Officer in DG Education and Culture, where his role is to monitor and develop policy for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions. He is also the contact point for cooperation with Japan.
Dr. Hobdey is a physicist with research experience in the US, Spain and UK.
He has worked in several research programmes since joining the European Commission in 1994. He has participated in the setting up the European Research Council since its inception, having first been the Head of Unit for the Starting Grants Unit. He is currently the Head of Unit for Call and Project Follow-up Coordination within the Scientific Department.

Working on the ERC Starting Grant project Plasmonics-based Energy Harvesting for Catalysis, (PLASMHACAT) since 2011, with cross affiliation with Hokkaido University
